ABOUT

Regenerative SPACE is a non-profit company (registered with the Department of Social Development as an Non-profit Organisation as well as being registered as a Public Benefit Organisation) working with other stakeholders to integrate people and nature through a dual focus on building the resilience of local communities through the development of localised circular green economies, and safeguarding and regenerating biodiversity.

We believe that socio-economic development does not have to be at the expense of the environment, it is not either/or, but both. For us, nature conservation and human development encompass a wide range of sustainability concerns that should be addressed in an integrated manner, not the one at the expense of the other.

REGENERATIVE

Describes processes that restore, renew or revitalise. For us, this implies a process-oriented approach – from design to end-of-life – to ensure symbiotic, circular, green value chains aimed at environmental and socio-economic sustainability.

SPACE

refers to both a conceptual thinking space and a physical locality to engage with what we value, namely:

S

Sustainability,

seen as the ability to achieve socio-economic growth by benefiting from local biospheres while protecting them. It is about striking a balance between people, the environment and the economy as represented in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

P

Partnerships,

which imply cooperation to further mutual interests. We recognise that working together is essential if we are to create a more sustainable world.

A

Alternatives,

to the winner-takes-all principles of conventional capitalism. This means exploring options beyond the established cultural, social or economic systems that have resulted in the human and planetary crises we now face.

C

Creativity,

which represents the use of imagination, original ideas and innovation. In a lecture at MIT, Deepak Chopra defined creativity as consisting of context, meaning, relationship and story. If we want a new context, we will have to change our relationships and stories to create new meanings.

E

Ecology,

as a branch of science that studies how organisms relate to one another and their environment. Humans are part of the environment and need to live in far greater balance with the web of life.
